Vitamin C (also known as ascorbic acid) is an essential dietary nutrient required for biosynthesis of collagen, cholesterol, amino acids and some peptide hormones. It prevents cancer and cardiovascular conditions, counteracts inflammation, and prevents the progression of some chronic and acute diseases. Vitamin C plays a vital role in controlling infections, healing wounds, treating heart disease, cancer, stroke, respiratory infections and pneumonia, meaning some medications may not be needed to treat illnesses. Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin meaning it dissolves in water and is therefore not well stored in the body. A daily dose is needed through supplements or food such as citrus fruits, berries, green and leafy vegetables, tomatoes, cauliflower potatoes and peppers. Your body will only absorb around 10% of any supplement taken orally and therefore injections are recommended via intramuscular to ensure maximum benefits are directed straight into the blood stream.
